Antarctic Peninsula
A giant finger pointing toward Cape Horn, this peninsula is the destination of most Antarctic cruises. It is rich in scenic beauty, wildlife, and in the history of Antarctic exploration. There are numerous opportunities for scenic cruising and to go ashore by inflatable expedition boats.
Half Moon Island
One of the most pleasant landings in Antarctica, Half Moon Island has a sizable rookery of chinstrap penguins as well as nesting Antarctic terns and kelp gulls. Whales are quite often seen patrolling the shores, and this small island offers stunning views of surrounding mountains.
Neumayer Channel/Port Lockroy
The soaring cliffs of Neumayer Channel form the entrance-way to Port Lockroy, one of Antarctica’s most exciting harbors ringed by towering mountains. It is here that Winston Churchill established a secret British station during World War II to protect interests in the Southern Ocean. Although now abandoned, you will find the recently restored base plus a large gentoo rookery and vestiges of past whaling activities.
Paradise Harbor
This protected harbor lives up to its name. Ringed by hanging ice cliffs and dotted with floating bergs reflecting every color of the spectrum, it has a heavenly aura about it. At the sometimes occupied Chilean station, there are sizable colonies of gentoo and chinstrap penguins.
