It was a literary and cultural center in the 20th century, and the town has Viennese influence and style - along with grand squares, palazzi and churches. The main square, Piazza dell'Unita d'Italia, has Viennese cafes, Palazzo del Governo, and Palazzo del Comune with its clock tower. All of these buildings were built in the 19th century. The promenade is a worth a stroll. Upper town, Colle di San Giusto - with its terrific views - has beautiful Castello di San Giusto and its musuem at the top of the hill, Piazza Cattedrale. Basilica di San Giusto is two churches in several styles, including Roman and Byzantine, with frescoes depicting San Giusto (the town's patron saint), mosaics, and the lovely rose window. Our tour continues to The Palace of Mon Repos. The palace was once the summer residence of the ex-Greek Royal Family. Its wild-natural park is an oasis of tall trees and shrubs. It was built by Commissioner Adams for his wife, although she soon vacated the palace when her husband was sent to serve in India and it became a rarely used summer house for all the governors. 

During the British occupation a school for clergymen was located there. After the union of the Ionian Islands with Greece, King Georgios I took possession of the area and named it Mon-Repos. At Mon Repos one can see a beautiful view from the hill of Analipsi, the ruins of the ancient city and the basilica of Palaiopoli.

Our final destination is the Heritage Old Town of Corfu, where guests may enjoy a walking tour. Our wonderful tour begins with a scenic drive to Paleokastritsa, one of the most beautiful resorts on the island with fine beaches, wooded hills and crystal-clear sheltered bays pierced by black rocks. Here you’ll visit Paleokastritsa's venerable monastery, founded in 1226 and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere created with shady archways and lovely gardens. 

Our next visit is to the Theotoky Estate, located in the Ropa Valley, in the center of the Island, 20 km  from Corfu Town. The estate has been in the family for many generations, as Theotoky is one of the oldest families in Greece. The Estate is over 300 acres. Covered almost entirely by pine trees, olive trees and vineyards, it is one of the few ecological and peaceful spots that still exist. The locally famous and of excellent quality Theotoky wine is produced in the estate's 30 acres vineyards.

The estate also has an abundance of olive trees, which are grown in the fields without the use of chemical fertilizers. The harvesting is done directly from the trees and olives are milled in the cold-press.

Guests will have the opportunity to tour the winery and olive oil refinery. After the tour, a typical Greek meze (feta cheese, tomatoes, olives and bread) of local produce grown on the estate will be offered to the
guests with a glass of wine.

Argostoli is the capital of Cephalonia. The harbour front is worth a walk. There is an excellent market for buying fresh fruit and veg, and the traffic free shopping area running parallel to the harbor front is also well worth visiting. Spend a Saturday evening in the main square over an ouzo, watching the local populace taking their volta. The whole family comes out to play. There are balloon sellers and amateur entertainers. Children race around on tricycles and on foot while their older brothers and sisters play the age old game of eyeing each other from the safety of their own peer groups. All this while the parents look on indulgently.

Destroyed several times by eruptions from Mt Etna and an earthquake in 1693, this busy port, situated along the northeast coast of Sicily, on the Gulf of Catania, is now graced by wide boulevards, lush parks and spacious piazzas. Choose from the medieval power of the 11th-century cathedral and the Castello Ursino, the Baroque fantasy of San Nicolo, or return to the ancient origins of the city with a visit to the Greek theater. Just a short drive up the coast are the Greek glories of Taormina, with unforgettable views of Mt. Etna.

Salerno is situated at the northern end of the Gulf of Salerno. The old town, rising up the slopes of the hill on the site of ancient Salernum, still bears evidence of its medieval period. Salerno's main attraction is a Romanesque cathedral, built in 1085 and remodeled in the late 18th century. Inside is the ornate tomb of Margaret of Anjou and the tomb of Pope Gregory VII, who died here in 1085. In the richly decorated crypt under the alter lie the remains of Evangelist Matthew, brought here from Paestum. A hilltop crowned by the old Lombard Castello offers extensive views. Along the seafront, to the east of the harbor, extends a promenade lined with impressive modern buildings. Visit the Greek temples of Paestum. Other favorite excursions from here are to Pompeii and to the popular resort towns of Amalfi and Ravello. The Museo Diocesano houses a fine collection of medieval carved tablets. Occupying two floors of the San Benedetto Monastery, the main attraction at Museo Provinciale is a handsome bronze head of Apollo fished out of the bay in the 1930s.

The area around Viterbo, north of Rome, became a retreat for popes and cardinals during troubled times in Rome. Happily for us, they have left a legacy of beautiful villas and gardens, designed in one of Italy’s finest periods, the Renaissance and consequently models for the rest of Europe to copy. One of the finest villas is the Palazzo Farnese at Caprarola, a huge edifice, standing at the top of the town’s steep main street. Surrounding the palace are two magnificent gardens, a south-facing summer terrace and an east-facing winter terrace, each with appropriate plants and design. After lunch in a traditional local restaurant (not included), you will visit the Villa Lante in Bagnaia, another splendid Renaissance palace and built by Vignola, the architect of the Palazzo Farnese and considered to be his finest creation. Alice and Paulo Tavares da Silva bought the estate in the 1980s and made significant investments in its 45ha of vineyard. The introduction of new cultivation methods has allowed the family to consolidate the quality and reputation of their wines.
 
In an accompanied visit, you can get to know the wine making technology and methods used in the Quinta to produce their elegant wines, learning every step of the wine process. After understand how the wines are produced, see for yourself how they are stored during the ageing process that gives them some of their most typical characteristic. Follows a private and lectured wine tasting, lectured by the responsible for the oenology department, Sandra Tavares da Silva, the daughter of the owners, or by the resident oenologist, so you can confirm the high quality of their product. Sandra is making wines in both Estremadura and the Douro, which necessitates travelling between the two regions three times a week. Since then her day job has been as winemaker for Christiano Van Zeller at Quinta do Vale D. Maria in the Douro. The origins of this estate and its winemaking activities, date back to the prehistoric times of the megalithic cultures and the Bronze Age. Already during the Roman occupation, the wines of the settlement were exported to the whole Empire. The boundaries of the estate were established in 1267 and have remained practically unaltered since then.

Our Lady of Begona Church is a 16th-century church on a hill with a good view of the city and valley.
